This screensaver turns your PC into a cozy fireside scene, though the demo’s rather disruptive nag screen might leave some users with a chilly feeling. Upon launch, you’ll see a very realistic fire crackling inside a hearth. As the camera pans in, out, and all around the room, you’ll be able to make out other details, such as the clock and other items on the mantelpiece. In particular, we liked the lifelike way the blazing fire casts light around corners of the room. The sound effects and calming piano-based soundtrack fit the program’s overall mood like a glove, but you can turn either of them down if you choose. Other customization options include the ability to adjust the gamma; enable glow and desaturation; and choose among a few cameras with adjustable delay. Unfortunately, a large nag screen shows up after one minute and won’t go away, putting a serious damper on Spirit of Fire 3D Screensaver. We also should note the application consumes a considerable amount of PC resources, so users with older machines may experience hiccups. In spite of our grumbles, this screensaver still offers enough positives to make it worth considering, particularly during the cold winter months.
